Launch 1st Karel van Eerd Music Award (edition 2021)
Today we’ve officially launched the very first Karel van Eerd Music Award competition for jazz bands. After postponing it several time due to Covid-19 restrictions, we’re done waiting. Even if we might have to adjust some of the competition’s scheduling along the way if additional Covid-19 restrictions are ordered: The time is now!
The award is named after Karel van Eerd, known mostly for founding the Jumbo Supermarket chain in The Netherlands. As a passionate jazz lover and long year supporter of many bands and festivals he felt it was time to create more substantial opportunities for talented jazz musicians to actually kick-start their carreers. Together with Eelco van Velzen from Festiventures BV a unique annual competition was developed. “A jazz band capable of winning this Award is by definition so good that every audience in the world should be able to hear them.”
The overall winner will win a serious chance to build a European Live Music Career through a completely sponsored tour and everything that goes with it: Studio Recordings, video clips, a promotional campaign and a professionally coached follow-up trajectory. €25.000,- will be spend in that trajectory. That, and a beautiful Award in the form of the ‘Apollo’ sculpture, made by artist Rogier Ruys.
